[Report] The 2nd Practice session to enjoy Budo techniques and Riai - Nihon Den Kodokan Judo-

On 11 February 2025 (national holiday), we held a judo workshop at the Kodokan in Kasuga, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo.

This time, we were able to visit the Kodokan for judo, which has historical links with Shotokan karate-do.

In the first half of the day, we learnt about the history and philosophy of judo from the Kodokan instructors. It was a very emotional time for us to learn about the deep philosophy of judo and the spirit behind it. In the library and reference room, we were also given explanations about each of the materials, which helped us to better understand the profound weight of judo's history.

In the second half of the day, we moved to the main dojo, where Kodokan instructors gave us a detailed explanation of the Riai of the ‘kata’ of 'Ukemi' and 'Nage'. The unique way in which they were explained made us very easy to understand and allowed us to feel the joy of learning through the body. The two and a half hours flew by in a flash and it was a very fulfilling time.

It was also a great honour to be able to greet the fifth president of the Kodokan, Uemura Haruki Sensei.

All of us Taishijuku students learnt a lot through our interactions with the Kodokan senseis. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Kodokan for accepting such a valuable opportunity. It was truly a wonderful programme. We would like to make the most of this experience and devote ourselves to it in our future training.
