[Blog] Taishijuku students' experiences at a training camp in Germany: international exchange and learning through Karate-do② Akira Todoroki
Hello, my name is Akira Todoroki. I am a member of the Taishijuku Akabane Branch.
I am from Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture, and I moved to Tokyo last April to study at university.
Before I came to Tokyo, I had been training in Mie Prefecture for 10 years at a dojo taught by a Japan Karate Association(JKA) sensei. I therefore searched for a JKA dojo in Tokyo and was very fortunate to find and join Taishijuku, where Shihan Naka teaches.
They welcomed me as a family member, and I am now very grateful to them. Everyone at Taishijuku has always been there for me when I have been in trouble and I cannot thank them enough.
The reason why I decided to participate in the ‘Kata special’ training camp in Germany this time was because of an invitation from Naka Shihan.
I had never been abroad myself, so I was very excited when I was told about the opportunity.
I immediately decided to take part in the camp because I thought it would be one of those rare opportunities to leave Japan and experience foreign culture and karate training in a foreign country.

The short version of my impressions of the camp is that everything was very exciting for me and I had a great time.
As soon as I arrived at the venue, I was warmly welcomed by the locals and I immediately felt at home with them.
During the training there, I had a great experience of learning 'Riai' and training myself through Karate kata.
I had only experienced such gatherings in Japan for training for tournaments and matches, so I was very impressed by this event where many people from different countries gathered for their own training, and more than 1,000 people gathered.
I also met many people through this seminar and at the same time learnt about the vastness of the world, which was an unforgettable experience.
I will use this experience to devote myself to making karate and my life even more wonderful in the future.
